For this project I teamed up with two digital film students. Our assignment was to make a commercial for the San Francisco Playhouse. The SF Playhouse has a Rising Star program that brings theater education to local schools. They wanted something that would explain the program, and ask for donations as a call to action. It was super fun being able to take photos and video behind the scenes at the SF Playhouse.

I came up with the initial concept and storyline for the commercial, but the final story was a collaborative effort. On the production side of things, I worked on the motion graphics, and got to act as a grip! After we had a rough idea of what we wanted to make, I started on the look and feel of the motion graphics. I wanted something that had a hand done quality. This was because the testimonials from the students (which were real) were unique, and I wanted a typeface that matched. So I whipped out my tablet and started tracing over a typeface in illustrator. This gave me the hand quality, while still being uniform.

This was an initial study of how the testimonial text would look. This is my classmate Haley!

After we decided on this look for the text, we did more test. The text in these has a more unified look to them because they are based off of an existing typeface.

Finally I wanted something friendly for the ending graphics. So I animated the hand done copy to be bouncy and energetic.

We also made an animatic to get the general pacing of the piece. Be warned! We are using our own voices!
